My intro to Te 448

Hello world,
I am going to be a future teacher, teaching children who are labeled as having some form of a learning disability. I am currently enrolled in Te 448 and I find the class to be very interesting. During this semester we will be criticizing books that deal with issues of culture, race, and other issues in this society. So far we have talked about multi-cultarism... and how this word can be seen in a negative light. When I say negative, this word is used to single out every minority group and culture. This word is used to promote the differences in our society but they are also contributing to the stereotypical views that some people may have on a certain race/ culture. I recently visited a children book store and asked the office clerk woman to show me their multi- cultural section. I was a little impressed at the wide range of books that they had. However as I continued to look around I noticed that these books did have some stereotypical images of how they felt a certain culture should be portrayed. Has anyone ran into a situation similar to mine if so PLEASE do share.....
